Four national law firms have won prized property panel spots for major clients and UK institutions Hewlett Packard UK and Royal Mail.
Longstanding advisers Hammonds, Bond Pearce and Scottish firm McGrigors have been reappointed on Royal Mail's property and property litigation panel after the postal giant cut its property roster from a cluster of advisers to just three last month.
Bond Pearce's appointment comes after the firm was dropped from Royal Mail's personal injury panel in June. Commercial property partner Fiona O'Kane will lead the firm's team for Royal Mail.
Leeds-based Hammonds partners Andrew Sprake and Sally Lodge headed up the national firm's team on the tender. Hammonds was first appointed to Royal Mail's property and employment panels when they were last reviewed in 2004, but the firm was overlooked in favour of Eversheds, McGrigors and Weightmans in the postal giant's review of its employment advisers last year.
Meanwhile, computer giant HP's UK operation has named Shoosmiths as its main adviser for commercial property. The firm already advises HP on its employment and dispute resolution matters. Shoosmiths will manage the new instructions from its Thames Valley office, with dispute resolution partner Stuart Little and property partner Alan Corcoran leading the firm's relationship with HP.
HP UK head of legal James Ormrod said: "I was looking for legal solutions from a firm which will actively help me to manage legal support needs efficiently and cost effectively. Shoosmiths has proved adept at working with us in this way in the areas of dispute resolution and employment matters, and I am looking forward to Alan and his team delivering more of the same on our property needs."
HP UK, which has a domestic portfolio of 43 properties across the country, said that the firm would now cover all aspects of corporate property work including lease renewals and development work.
The appointment follows another trophy panel place win by the Shoosmiths' property team last October for the UK's largest motorway services company, Moto.
