Logistics giant Christian Salvesen is set to lose high-profile general counsel Edward Peppiatt in the wake of its takeover by French rival Groupe Norbert Dentressangle (GND) at the end of last year.

Peppiatt will remain at the company until the end of next month to help with integration issues but said Christian Salvesen was unlikely to appoint another general counsel in the UK under its new ownership regime.

Peppiatt told Legal Week: "My role was focused on being the general counsel of a public limited company. Now the board has been disbanded and there's no need for two group general counsels. I am giving my next move some thought and have not ruled anything out yet."

News of his likely exit follows the departure of commercial legal director Keith Marriot, who left the logistics company in November to take on a role as general counsel at Birmingham-based exhibition centre company NEC Group.

Marriot was promoted to the role of commercial legal director after Peppiat instigated an overhaul of the £820m business's in-house legal department last year, which resulted in the company bringing more legal work in-house.

Lead corporate adviser Lovells and Dickson Minto advised Christian Salvesen on its takeover by GND, which completed in December, with Macfarlanes and Scots firm MacRoberts acting on the other side.
