Salans will launch an office in Frankfurt next month (1 July) after announcing the hire of two partners from local independent Aderhold Gassner.

Litigation partner Matthias Haas and corporate partner Holger Scheer join Salans along with four associates. The six lawyers will staff the office alongside real estate partner Detlef Spranger, who is relocating to Frankfurt from Salans' Berlin office along with one further associate.

The new branch will focus on areas including corporate, private equity, real estate and tax, with the firm aiming to boost the office's headcount to around 30 lawyers by the end of 2009.

Salans' German managing partner, Andreas Ziegenhagen, said the firm had been looking to launch in Frankfurt for some time, commenting: "We share the same high standards of client service with Holger Scheer and Matthias Haas and their colleagues."

The move represents part of a concerted push by the firm to expand in the German market, with Munich a likely location for the next launch.

Salans global managing partner Dariusz Oleszczuk added: "Our opening in Frankfurt is an essential component of our international strategy. Clients rely on us to be a serious player in Germany, so we need to step outside Berlin. We took the opportunity in Berlin, and Frankfurt and Munich is the obvious step forward."

Salans opened in Berlin in January 2006 after hiring a 12-lawyer team from now-defunct German independent Haarmann Hemmelrath.

Earlier this week the firm hired Pinsent Masons corporate partner Andrew Liu to spearhead Salans' new Hong Kong office.
