Norton Rose has scored its first major role for the Crown Estate since being appointed to its energy panel, advising the property developer on an offshore wind farm project.

The firm fielded a team under London construction and projects partner Nick Pincott and energy partner John Wood to advise Crown Estate, with the mandate coming little more than a month after the firm was appointed to the organisation's newly-created energy panel in April.

The top 10 City firm acted alongside SJ Berwin, with London competition partner Elaine Gibson-Bolton advising the Crown Estate, a long-standing client of the firm, on all competition matters.

The wind farm deal sees the City duo advise as Crown Estate launches the third round of a leasing programme which aims to provide up to 25 gigawatts of power to the UK by 2020. Under the scheme, Crown Estate has pinpointed 11 additional sites around the UK coast as potential wind farms, including areas off the Norfolk, Devon and Cardiganshire coast.

Commenting on the deal, Wood said: "These will be vast wind farms generating clean renewable energy on a scale we have not seen before."

Pincott added: "The UK has set ambitious targets for renewables and the Crown Estate is taking a proactive role in helping to achieve them."

The Crown Estate energy panel was created earlier this year, with US firm Hunton & Williams also winning a place.
