Eversheds is planning to re-enter the Dutch market and is also working towards sealing alliances to take it into Norway and Finland.

The plans to return to the Netherlands come after a six-year absence. Eversheds previously had an alliance with Boekel de Neree between December 1999 and May 2002. It is thought the spilt was due to a lack of referrals.

Plans to tie up an alliance with firms in Norway and Finland are at a far earlier stage but, if successful, would give the firm a presence in four of the five Nordic countries.

The UK law firm already has 21 lawyers, including nine partners based in Copenhagen, with the office fully merging with Eversheds in July 2003.

In Stockholm, it operates an alliance with Andren Bratt Partner, which was formed in August 2005. The six-partner office this month changed its name to Eversheds – a move made by the firm's Baltic allies in April.

Commenting on Eversheds' international strategy, chairman Alan Jenkins said: "The Netherlands is an important country economically. It is a major destination for foreign investment by multinational businesses and also has a number of multinational businesses in its own right. The northern European market is increasingly being seen as one business region by clients."
