Lovells has strengthened its Spanish corporate practice with the hire of the general counsel of a Spanish transport infrastructure company.

Lucas Osorio joined Lovells' Madrid office as a partner on Monday (20 June) from Concesiones de Infraestructuras de Transporte (Cintra). The appointment marks his first move into private practice.

Osorio has spent the bulk of his career in in-house legal roles within the Spanish Government and Grupo Ferrovial, which controls Cintra.

Before taking up his most recent post as secretary to the board of directors and general counsel of Cintra, Osorio spent three years as head of legal support to the corporate development division of Ferrovial and previously served at the Spanish Ministry of Public Administration.

He has worked on transactions including the initial public offering of Cintra and Ferrovial's acquisition of BAA.

His hire takes Lovells' Madrid corporate practice to two partners and nine fee earners and comes after the firm last year made a double hire from Lupicinio Eversheds with the recruitment of energy partner Hermenegildo Altozano and consultant Pedro Mielgo.

Lovells managing partner David Harris said: "We have stated our commitment to long-term strategic investment in the international corporate practice and recent high-profile hires such as Lucas and [former O'Melveny & Myers partner] Chris Ashworth are evidence of this."

The Madrid arm of Lovells, which was launched in 2004 with corporate partner Jose Maria Balana, now houses 10 partners and 40 fee earners.
