Eversheds has sealed its re-entry into the Netherlands market after signing an alliance agreement with 12-partner Dutch practice Faasen & Partners.

The tie-up will go live on 1 October, giving the UK firm a presence in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

As a full member of Eversheds International, once the alliance is live the firm will operate as Eversheds Faasen.

Founded in 2002, Faasen has 45 fee earners across its offices in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The firm advises on a full range of practices, including corporate, finance, securities, employment and competition law.

The agreement means Eversheds will be returning to the Netherlands after a six-year absence. The firm previously had an alliance with Boekel de Neree but split from the firm in early 2002 after three years.

The split was thought to be caused by a lack of referalls between the two firms.

Eversheds chairman Alan Jenkins said that the two firms had been in talks for several months. He commented: "We chose them through a process of working with them and getting to know them. We share the same approach to our clients and we like that they are innovative and entrepreneurial. [The Netherlands] has an open economy that stimulates foreign investment and is the home country of many large multinationals."

Faasen & Partners said that the motivation for the alliance was increasing client demand for assistance and referrals outside its home market.

Managing partner, Rob Faasen, said: "With the step that we are now taking, we can service our present and future clients better, especially where it concerns international
activities. Having the capabilities and resources of an international law firm like Eversheds to draw upon will be an enormous advantage for us and our clients."
