Specialist insurance firm Kennedys is set to acquire the Tiverton-based regional office of rival practice Reynolds Porter Chamberlain (RPC).

The insurance office will transfer to Kennedys on July, with the Devon arm hosting six lawyers and one partner specialising in high-volume claims for the London market and regional offices.

Commenting on the sale of the insurance office, managing partner Jonathon Watmough said: "The lease on the Tiverton building will expire later this year and we had to consider whether concentrating our investment in a regional strategy will provide the best means of serving our clients in the insurance sector, who are increasingly instructing us on more complex matters. Tiverton no longer seemed the best springboard for this kind of work."

The transfer of the Tiverton office is the second time the property has changed hands in the last five years. RPC acquired the office from SJ Cornish & Partners in 2003.

Kennedys' acquisition has continued the firm's commitment to growth. Last month the practice announced its decision to merge with fellow specialist insurance firm Davies Lavery.

The merger will go live from 1 September, with the combined practice – boasting 600 staff including 110 partners – taking on the Kennedys banner. The new firm will have UK offices in London, Manchester, Chelmsford, Birmingham, Maidstone, Cambridge and Belfast.
