Lovells has hired energy partner Brad Roach from White & Case in Singapore. Roach, who is joined by an energy associate, made the move to the City firm earlier this week (21 July).
Roach, who advises the developers of infrastructure projects and has a particular focus on the Southeast Asian petroleum industry, is the first dedicated energy partner employed at Lovells' 20-lawyer Singapore arm.
Roach's move to Lovells takes the office to three partners — including managing partner James Harris, who specialises in project finance work, and finance partner Ken Hawkes.
The addition of an energy team comes on the back of a period of expansion for Lovells in Singapore.
The firm has also added lawyers to its international arbitration, intellectual property and corporate teams during the last year.
Lovells Asia managing partner Crispin Rapinet said: "[The hire of Roach] helps bring a number of factors together and also opens up opportunities in projects and arbitration.
"It fits in well with our existing practice and also overlaps with our Japanese practice, with which he shares clients including Mitsubishi. From the firm's perspective, it is a very exciting hire."
David Harris, Lovells' managing partner, added: "While our practice has been instrumental advising on a number of the most significant projects in the sector, the addition of Brad and his team enables us to provide our clients, both regional and international, with a comprehensive energy and projects service in Southeast Asia."
Roach is the second partner Lovells has recruited from White & Case's Asian practice this year. Corporate partner Fred Chang made the switch to join Lovells' Beijing office in January.
