Education provider Kaplan Professional has extended its legal offering after acquiring Altior, a specialist in post-qualification legal training, it was announced yesterday (24 July)

The acquisition follows the launch in London last year of Nottingham Law at Kaplan Law School, which specialises in the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and the Graduate Diploma in Law, as well as extending in to legal professional development by acquiring Hawksmere.

Cardiff-based Altior will offer the Professional Skills Course at Kaplan – a compulsory modular programme that trainee solicitors must complete within their two-year training contract.

In addition, Altior also runs management and business skills training courses for law firm management, partners, fee earners and support staff.

Kaplan Professional chief executive Peter Houillon commented: "Altior's Professional Skills Course and its other professional development courses complement our existing offerings to the legal market. This acquisition brings exciting opportunities for further growth underpinned by the strength and depth of Kaplan's global business."

Mark Loosemore, CEO of Altior, said: "In Kaplan, we will have a parent company with a great understanding of professional development training. With Kaplan's strategic expertise and financial backing, we aim to grow our presence further."

Earlier this year the Law Society awarded Nottingham Law at Kaplan Law School its highest rating for its LPC in all assessment categories.
