Consumer organisation Which? is looking for a new head of its Legal Service division following the departure of the previous post-holder after just a year in the role.

Gordon Wilson left the organisation last week with finance and operations director Martin Webster taking up the role on a temporary basis.

A Which? spokesperson said: "Gordon Wilson recently left his role as head of Which? Legal Service to pursue other opportunities.

"We are currently recruiting a replacement, but in the meantime Martin Webster, finance and operations director at Which? continues to oversee the direction of Which? Legal Service and it is very much business as usual."

The organisation denied that Webster's decision to quit was prompted by a disagreement over the future direction of Which?'s legal function.

Which? Legal Service provides consumers with legal advice over the phone, dealing with issues such as employment law, disputes with neighbours and problems with goods and services.

It is not part of the organisation's in-house legal function led by general counsel Deborah Prince, who joined from supermarket giant Tesco in June 2006. Last year Prince named five firms onto the body's first-ever formal legal panel with Charles Russell, Foot Anstey, Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, Clyde & Co and Wedlake Bell all appointed as advisers.
