Garrigues introduces new flexi scheme

Garrigues has put in place a new scheme aimed at bringing in equal opportunities for male and female lawyers in a bid to retain staff. The leading Spanish independent launched the new system - which encourages flexible working - at the start of this month (1 September). The plan is intended to promote work-life balance by encouraging working from home - allowing either parent to work from home extensively during the first year of a child's life. It also includes the creation of a formal action plan for cases of sexual, moral and gender-based harassment. The move comes shortly after Garrigues published its second corporate social responsibility (CSR) report.Commenting on the equality initiative, Garrigues managing partner Miguel Gordillo said: "We are very pleased to have this plan up and running, as it is a clear example of our commitment to managing talent."Garrigues' move comes as gender issues play a growing role in public debate in Spain, with the Government launching new initiatives looking at issues such as liberalising the country's strict abortion rules.
