The Treasury Solicitor's Department's new Lit-Cat panel has been unveiled, with 40 firms being appointed for a three-year term.

A clutch of regional and national firms have been named on the panel including Eversheds, Nabarro, Blake Lapthorn, Clarke Wilmott and HBJ Gateley Wareing.

The Lit-Cat panel provides litigation and regulatory advice to the Treasury Solicitor's Department's in-house legal staff.

The panel is split into six areas – employment, personal injury (PI), specialised litigation support, regulatory and debt recovery. One area is dedicated to the regions across England and Wales.

Weightmans is one of the big winners, after being selected to advise on PI, the regions and employment litigation.

DMH Stallard, Kennedys and Browne Jacobson have all also been appointed to three areas.

Firms were invited to tender for the panel in June this year, with the deadline for applications in August. More than 100 firms went through the selection process.

Treasury Solicitor Paul Jenkins said: "I am delighted that we have had such a good response to its invitation to tender for the new Lit-Cat panel. We are committed to working with private sector providers where to do so can bring costs savings and make the best use of available skills."

"The Lit-Cat panel consists of firms that have proven, through open competition, that they are capable of contributing to that goal. We has also made clear our commitment to cross-governmental working by making Lit-Cat available to all government departments."
