Taylor Wessing has bolstered its Paris arm after recent losses in the French capital with the hire of two new partners and a senior associate.

The firm has moved to shore up the office with the hire of Simon Christiaen and Evelyne Friedel as partners. Christiaen joins from Landwell, where he was a partner, while Friedel arrives from Jones Day, where she was a counsel. Senior associate Valerie Aumage has joined from Field Fisher Waterhouse in Paris.

Christiaen is an intellectual and industrial property lawyer with a particular focus on patent law related issues. Friedel focuses on economic and commercial law and is also a competition litigator.

Last autumn Taylor Wessing was hit by the departure of 25 lawyers, including 12 partners, to Nixon Peabody, as part of the US firm's launch in the French capital.

Taylor Wessing lost a court dispute in October claiming that a two-year recruitment moratorium agreement should have prevented Nixon from completing the swoop, which left the Anglo-German firm with eight partners and 27 associates.

The agreement had been struck after merger talks between the two firms had collapsed.

News of the hires comes after French firm Jeantet lost six partners, with the group quitting to launch a Paris-based boutique.

Jeantet partners Dominique Godet, Jean-Maurice Gaillard, Bruno Solle, Fabrice Maraux, Chloe Thieblemont and Eric Labro launched 15-lawyer Godet Gaillard Solle Maraux & Associes – will focus on corporate, finance, real estate and tax – at the beginning of the month (2 January).

Jeantet last year notably lost managing partner Georges Terrier, who quit alongside corporate partner Christophe Perchet to join the local arm of Wall Street leader Davis Polk & Wardwell.
