WilliamsF1 has begun its search for a new legal chief after current general counsel Jane Moffatt decided to leave the motor racing team.

Moffat, who is departing the organisation for personal reasons, will now take up a senior legal position with General Electric Oil & Gas in Italy.

The role of general counsel at WilliamsF1 involves advising on regulatory matters, working closely with the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), rights management issues, employment and general corporate and commercial work.

The general counsel will also work closely with WilliamsF1 chief executive Adam Parr, a former barrister.

Commenting on the role, Parr told Legal Week: "The role of general counsel is at board level, with the lawyer providing advice to the Williams team on a number of formats. The role is also a leadership position within the team, so this hire is terrifically important."

He added: "Jane will be leaving Williams in the near future and we wish her the best of luck. She is looking forward to starting her new role and we will are hoping to find her replacement as soon as we can."

Moffat began her legal career with Sydney firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques and is also a former senior associate at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
