Gomez-Acebo & Pombo has posted a double-digit increase in turnover for 2008, with revenues at the Spanish firm increasing by 12%.

The firm has reported total turnover of €61.1m (£55.1m) for 2008, representing an 11.9% increase on 2007 when the firm recorded revenues of €54.6m (£49.2m).

Gomez-Acebo managing partner Manuel Martin (pictured) said: "It has been a hard year, affected by an adverse economic situation, and these figures are the result of hard work and dedication to our clients."

The firm cited expansion as a key driver over the year, with a particular focus on growth in the industrial, intellectual property and IT sectors. The firm also took over a Barcelona labour law boutique last September.

News of the results comes as the firm confirms a merger with 18-lawyer tax boutique Padrol Munte. The boutique, which has offices in Madrid and Barcelona, was founded in 2000 by Heribert Padrol Munte, a former member of the Spanish Parliament.

Three of the Padrol Munte lawyers will join as partners, taking Gomez-Acebo's total partnership to 46. The firm now has a total of 297 lawyers and plans to expand further in 2009 with the opening of a Portugal branch.

Fellow Spanish firm Garrigues, which follows a different financial year to most other firms in the country, recently posted a 15% revenue rise for 2007-08 to reach €296.8m (£267.4m).
