A raft of regional law firms have joined a new national network designed to take advantage of changes set to be ushered in by the Legal Services Act (LSA).

The Legal Alliance (TLA) will focus on marketing a range of legal services provided by the member firms using a single unified brand.

The group will work closely with major companies offer post-LSA legal services to both customers and employees.

Each of the eleven founding firms is also attempting to attract other regional firms into the alliance, enabling the group to offer local services across England and Wales.

The group will be chaired by former Eversheds chairman Victor Semmens, with clinical negligence lawyer Ann Alexander named as deputy chair.

Alexander said: "This is all about making it simpler for the public to access legal advice. It enables people to use local law firms that operate at fixed prices for many of their services. TLA has spent two years developing the concept and securing the backing of our founding members."

She added: "If traditional law firms do not develop their services in the wake of the LSA, they will wither on the vine. We are aiming to recruit member firms who will deliver legal services to people living within their community. Our research indicates that consumers of legal services prefer to access those services locally."

The group has already forged partnerships with a number of affiliates operating in the consumer finance, insurance and retail sector.
