Taylor Wessing has taken pole position in the creation of a new Formula One team, advising on the formation of Brawn GP F1 through a management buyout.

The acquisition saw a management team headed by F1 heavyweight Ross Brawn buy out the Honda GP team for an undisclosed sum.

Taylor Wessing won the mandate as a result of a longstanding relationship with Brawn through the firm's head of competition, EU and trade Martin Baker.

The firm's team advising Brawn and the management team was headed up by London-based private equity partner Russell Van Praagh.

Working alongside Van Praagh were tax partners Peter Jackson and Ann Casey and head of employment Sean Nesbitt.

Honda, meanwhile, took advice from its in-house lawyers in Japan and the UK.

Van Praagh said: "Completing this deal shows that there are still buyouts to be done despite the challenging economic climate."

Brawn's buyout will save hundreds of jobs at the Formula One headquarters in Brackley.
