Linklaters has announced its new partner promotions, with the magic circle firm making up 18 to its global partnership.
The promotions, which take effect from 1 May, include six in the City, with the remainder spread across the firm's international network.
Two lawyers have been made up to the partnership in Brussels, Hong Kong and Madrid, while the firm's New York, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Moscow, Tokyo and Warsaw offices all gain one new partner each.
The bulk of the promotions come in mainstream corporate, which has received eight new partners, while banking gains four. Elsewhere, capital markets, environment and planning, financial markets, investment management, private equity and real estate all get one new partner each.
In addition, 29 salaried partners will join the firm's equity as of 1 May, while a further 18 have been promoted to the rank of counsel.
The tally represents a decrease on Linklaters' 2008 promotions round, which saw 28 new partners, including seven in London, while in 2007 the firm made up 38 new partners, including 15 in the City.
Senior partner David Cheyne (pictured) commented: "On behalf of everyone at Linklaters I would like to congratulate them on their success. The elections and promotions, which reflect the strength and depth of expertise across the firm, highlight our commitment to strategic investment in our global practice areas to meet clients' needs."
Linklaters' announcement makes it the third magic circle firm to announce its partnership promotions for 2009 – a year that is widely expected to see promotions heavily hit by the economic downturn.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer became the first to release its promotions, with the firm making up 14 new partners – including just two in London – significantly down on 2008′s figure of 25.
Slaughter and May's promotions showed a similar decline, with the firm making up two new partners, down from four in 2008 and five in 2007.
