Doughty Street Chambers has recruited media heavyweight Heather Rogers QC from rival set Matrix Chambers.

Rogers, who specialises in defamation, privacy and data protection, will move to Doughty Street on 1 May – a move which will allow her to diversify her practice.

Rogers will become the third silk in the team, which is led by head of chambers Geoffrey Robertson QC, following the elevation of Andrew Nicol QC to the High Court earlier this year (4 February).

Doughty Street Chambers director Robin Jackson commented: "The move will add a lot more strength to what we obviously think is a good media team. It is good, so soon after [Andrew Nicol QC's elevation to the High Court], to bring another silk on board."

He added: "There are hopefully opportunities for Heather to develop her practice further. We have lots of experience in public law and on an international level – all things relevant to the strong media experience Heather brings with her."

Rogers has acted on a number of high-profile cases including Lance Armstrong v Times Newspapers [2006], Polanski v The Conde Nast Publications [2005] and Harry Kewell v Gary Lineker, Jon Ryan and The Telegraph Group [2005].

The move follows the news earlier this month that Lord Hoffmann has joined Brick Court Chambers as a door tenant upon his retirement as a Law Lord on the 21 April – to focus on arbitration and mediation.
