Former British Airways (BA) general counsel Robert Webb QC has returned to the Bar with a move to Brick Court Chambers.

Webb joins Brick Court as a door tenant, with news of his move coming only weeks after it emerged in April that he would be stepping down from BA after more than 10 years as GC.

At Brick Court he will work part-time, providing advisory and arbitration advice with a focus on aviation.

Webb joined BA in 1998 and most recently represented the airline in its ongoing price-fixing dispute. In addition to managing legal and regulatory affairs he was also responsible for government and industry affairs, safety, security, risk management and the environment. At BA his legal, government and industry affairs responsibilities have been passed on to Maria Da Cunha, who has been the airline's head of legal since 2002, while Tim Steeds has taken on Webb's other role as director of safety and security.

In addition to his door tenancy with Brick Court, Webb, who was called to the Bar in 1971 and made QC in 1988 when he became 5 Bell Yard's head of chambers, holds a number of non-executive roles. These include sitting as a non-executive director at the BBC, the London Stock Exchange and Argent.

Webb said: "I am delighted to be joining Brick Court Chambers where I have friends and former colleagues with whom it will be a pleasure to be reunited."

Jonathan Sumption QC, joint head of Brick Court Chambers, said: "Robert Webb QC will be a great addition to Brick Court. His reputation as a lawyer and advocate is unquestioned and he has a uniquely broad knowledge of corporate governance and the aviation industry."

He added: "As a chambers we are privileged to be joined by an excellent team player whose outstanding character will be a great asset."

Last month Lord Hoffmann joined Brick Court Chambers as a door tenant upon his retirement as a Law Lord on the 21 April – in a move that will see him focus on arbitration and mediation.
