K&L Gates has launched an office in Dubai with the hire of Ashurst energy and transport partner Paul de Cordova.

Senior dispute resolution partner Neal Brendel will relocate from K&L Gates' Pittsburgh office to co-found the Dubai base, which will focus on corporate and projects work.

The duo will be joined by corporate associate Richard Dollimore, who is relocating to Dubai from the US firm's London office.

The office – K&L Gates' first in the Middle East – is the firm's 33rd global outpost following launches earlier this year in Frankfurt and Singapore.

De Cordova had been at Ashurst for 16 years, making partner in 2000. He transferred to Dubai in 2005 to head up the UK firm's office in the region.

K&L Gates chairman and global managing partner Peter Kalis commented: "The Gulf region is, has been, and will continue to be of strategic importance to the global economy. K&L Gates is delighted to launch our presence in the region to serve our clients active in the United Arab Emirates and throughout the Middle East."

Last week K&L Gates sealed the hire of Clifford Chance New York corporate partner David Bernstein. The firm also recently recruited Hogan & Hartson intellectual property litigation partner Tedd Van Buskirk, who has joined the firm's New York office.
