Dorsey & Whitney has bolstered its City corporate practice with the hire of Addleshaw Goddard partner Matthew Doughty.
Doughty, who is set to start at the US firm's London office later this month as a partner in the corporate team, joins the Minneapolis-headquartered firm after only two years with Addleshaws. He previously worked in the London office of O'Melveny & Myers.
Doughty is a member of the London Stock Exchange's advisory committee on investment entities, and advises on initial public offerings, M&A, investment funds, re-organisations, de-mergers, joint ventures and private equity.
His recent transactions include advising KBC Peel Hunt as financial adviser and nomad on the £203m takeover of TDG Logistics and The Laxey Investment Trust, as well as advising CompuGROUP on its £160m bid for iSOFT Group.
At Dorsey he will work closely with the London corporate co-chair, Mark Taylor, with particular focus on the UK and Chinese markets. Taylor said: "Matthew is well-known to the mid-market banks with whom we deal regularly. He will add depth to our existing relationships, bring a wealth of additional contacts, and strengthen our capabilities, particularly for our public company clients."
Doughty's hire takes Dorsey's London office to 10 partners, of which four (including one co-assigned to Minneapolis) are in corporate. The last City lateral partner hire was in August 2008 when the firm brought in Tim Maloney, formerly a partner and London litigation head at Eversheds.
