Wembley Stadium's head of legal and corporate affairs Darren Berman is stepping down from his role at the company.

The move comes as the Football Association (FA) integrates with subsidiary companies including Wembley National Stadium Limited (WNSL).

Alistair Maclean, previously the FA's head of legal services, has been appointed as the group legal director and company secretary for the newly-restructured FA Group.

Berman, whose next move is unconfirmed, spent six years at WNSL, having joined on secondment from the FA's legal team, prior to which he worked in private practice at Denton Wilde Sapte.

He played a key role in last year's refinancing of a loan taken out by WNSL to fund the redevelopment of England's flagship football stadium – which was due to be completed in August 2005, but eventually opened in early 2007.

The construction delays led to a long-running dispute between Australian construction company Multiplex and steel firm Cleveland Bridge – with the former awarded £6.2m in damages. The lawyers on the case – which included teams from Clifford Chance, Reid Minty (now merged with McGrigors) and Walker Morris – shared a total legal bill of around £20m.

Other recent legal moves involving the FA include the hire earlier this year of former International Rugby Board legal chief Darren Bailey as its new director of football governance and regulation.
