Baker & McKenzie has appointed a new chief financial officer (CFO) with the hire of Mark Carter from Allen & Overy.

Carter replaces Arthur Ferry, who is set to leave the firm in the coming months after two years in the role. Ferry's next move is not known.

Carter, who will join Bakers in September, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. He joined A&O in 2004, prior to which he worked for National Grid, Booker PLC and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Carter will sit on the firm's London management committee and report directly to office head Gary Senior.

Earlier this year Bakers appointed Julia Hayhoe as director of marketing and business development for the firm's London office. She joined from Hildebrandt International, where she had been a director for eight years.

In February, Linklaters recruited Peter Hickman from HBOS as the firm's new CFO, replacing Nick Heywood-Waddington who joined White & Case as chief operating officer (COO) for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Meanwhile, Lovells introduced the role of CFO last year when it bought in Richard Olver from Deloitte to oversee the firm's financial management.

Barlow Lyde & Gilbert appointed its first ever Asia chief COO, Lisa Foley from Bestford, to oversee the firm's practice in the region in February.
