Burges Salmon's former managing partner Guy Stobart has joined Kennedys as chief executive.

Stobart, who is set to join the insurance firm in September, will replace Ric Martin in the role. Martin will take up a new management position for the firm's Asian and Australasian offices.

The news ends months of speculation about Stobart's next move after he was replaced as managing partner of Burges Salmon by Chris Jackson on 1 May.

Stobart became a partner at Burges Salmon in 1986, going on to hold the managing partner post between 1995-1999 and 2001-2009.

In his role at Kennedys, which looks set to break into the top 50 after hiking revenues by 30% to £67.3m, Stobart will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the firm.

Kennedys senior partner Nick Thomas told Legal Week: "The plan was for Ric to step down from his role towards the end of the year, Guy was a ready-made replacement with his experience at Burges Salmon."

Stobart added: "I am delighted to be joining Kennedys and particularly at this stage in their development. The need for experienced management in law firms has become even more critical, particularly for firms of the scale of Kennedys. I am looking forward to working with the partners of Kennedys to continue to develop what is already an impressive practice."
