Bank of America Merrill Lynch has completed an overhaul of its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) legal function in the wake of the banks' 2008 merger, coming up with a 13-strong leadership team.
The overhaul names 13 leaders for teams including fixed income, corporate & investment banking and debt capital markets. In addition, four lawyers have been chosen to lead legal support in EMEA for their respective areas.
The changes were overseen by EMEA general counsel Sajid Hussein, who was appointed to the position earlier this year having previously served as GC for Bank of America in the region. He reports in to EMEA president Jonathan Moulds and GC for the investment bank Bill Caccamise.
Hussein's leadership team comprises: Richard Atkinson (fixed income, sales & trading); Andrew Bird (corporate & investment banking); Fiona Church (corporate governance); Catherine Daly (corporate law and debt capital markets); Sheila Dougherty (global product solutions); Tanya Epstein (corporate treasury); Lisa Rosen (litigation and regulatory investigations); Mark Skinner (equities); Barry Yin (global wealth management); Jacqueline Barodekar (card services); Freya Hone (research); Elspeth Lynch (human resources and supply chain); and Elizabeth Baird (litigation for special assets).
Bank of America Merrill Lynch has more than 100 lawyers across the EMEA region, in addition to support staff, with most now working from one building.
As Legal Week reported last year, at the time of their combination the two banks had around 700 lawyers globally, all of whom were asked to reapply for their jobs as a result of Bank of America's £38bn takeover.
It is still unclear how the banks' external advisers will change as a result of the union.
