Eversheds India group head Gauri Advani has been appointed to the executive board of the UK India Business Council (UKIBC).

The appointment, effective earlier this month (16 July), will see Advani join the 25-member board as one of six new members from the corporate sector.

The board is responsible for setting the strategy for the UKIBC, which is geared towards promoting bilateral trade and investment between the UK and India. The body has just named Patricia Hewitt MP as its new chair.

Advani joined Eversheds as head of its India team in 2007 from Denton Wilde Sapte, where she was head of strategic planning for the India group. She was admitted to practice in India in 1988 but moved to the UK in 1995 and qualified as a solicitor for England and Wales in 1998. Her practice focuses on project finance and infrastructure.

Commenting on the appointment, UKIBC chief executive Sharon Bamford said: "[Advani's] knowledge, experience and networks will not only contribute to our strategy going forward but will also support the next generation of businesses looking to forge closer links with India."

Advani added: "India is an important market with an exciting future ahead and I look forward to contributing towards the UKIBC initiatives to promote bilateral trade, business and investment between India and the UK."
