McGrigors has bolstered its contentious tax practice with the hire of three non-lawyer tax investigation specialists from top 10 accountancy firm Tenon Group.

Tenon's former national head of tax investigations has joined McGrigors as a director alongside Paul Williams and Jessica Maude, who join the Scots firm as manager and assistant manager respectively.

The trio, based in London, will work alongside McGrigors' Manchester-based tax investigations director Joe Quinn, who joined this year from KPMG, and contentious tax partners James Bullock, Jason Collins, Rupert Shiers and David Anderson.

The firm said it hoped to position itself against the Big Four accounting firms by providing litigation and investigations advice under one roof. The move comes as partners predict an increase in tax investigations work as a result of HM Revenue & Customs changes.

Bullock, McGrigors' head of litigation and regulatory, commented: "These appointments are a highly significant strategic step for McGrigors.

"It will allow us to provide a full multi-disciplinary tax disputes and investigations offering to clients and will move us into the mainstream tax investigations market. Increasingly, we are finding clients want to go to law firms for investigations work whereas before they would go to an accountancy firm. With this team we can provide a seamless service that clients want."
