Denton Wilde Sapte has sealed a deal to send all of its future trainees to study exclusively with the College of Law.

The agreement, which starts in September, will cover both the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and the Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL). It will allow those with training contracts with Dentons to study at any of the College's five centres in the UK.

Until now the firm has allowed its prospective trainees to take the GDL and LPC with the provider of their choice.

Dentons trainee partner Jeremy Cape told Legal Week: "We have come to believe that the advantages of having an exclusive agreement with a law school outweigh the freedom factor of leaving it open to recruits to decide where they study."

The agreement makes Dentons the latest in a growing band of firms to tie themselves to specific LPC providers. It takes the number of firms with which the College of Law has exclusive LPC agreements to 15, including magic circle trio Clifford Chance, Linklaters and Allen & Overy.

Imogen Burton, director of business development with the College of Law, said: "I am very pleased to be working with Dentons in this way, which will help the firm to ensure consistency and common quality standards in the development of its trainees."

The College's main rival, BPP, has 17 firms signed up to its LPC, with Withers the most recent addition. BPP's tally includes the City LPC consortium, comprising Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Slaughter and May, Herbert Smith, Lovells and Norton Rose.
