Eversheds pensions head Anthony Arter is set to become the firm's new London senior partner.

Arter will replace Cornelius Medvei in the role on 1 September, while also continuing in his capacity as head of the firm's pensions group.

Medvei, who oversaw the firm's move to One Wood Street last year, will now return to full-time fee earning, while heading up the UK top 10 firm's transport sector.

Medvei's clients include Transport for London and Crossrail, which appointed Eversheds to its first formal legal panel in November last year.

Arter – who recently received the Prince's Ambassador Award for leadership and commitment to responsible business from Prince Charles – will lead Eversheds' City office through its next phase of development as the firm implements its strategy plan for 2009-12, as previously reported by Legal Week.

Eversheds chief executive Bryan Hughes commented: "Cornelius is a partner with exceptional vision. He has made a significant contribution to the development of our City practice. His dedication to understanding the future of the legal sector and adopting new ways of working will be a lasting legacy."

He added: "As we head towards a new phase in the way the legal sector delivers client service excellence, Anthony will utilise his already highly-regarded leadership skills to continue to evolve the way we service City and international clients in this current climate."

Arter said: "London is the flagship for Eversheds' international practice. I am looking forward to guiding our City practice through the next phase of its development and continuing our drive to provide high-quality corporate legal services in the City through the deployment of modern techniques."
