EDF Energy has finalised the restructuring of its UK legal function in the wake of last year's £12.5bn takeover of British Energy.

General counsel and company secretary Jean MacDonald has overseen the overhaul, which has seen the combined legal teams split across five different functions: corporate; energy sourcing and customer supply; networks; governance and secretariat; and nuclear.

MacDonald has appointed new legal heads for each group, with effect from 1 September. Toby Moreton has been named as the head of the corporate legal team; Karen Lawrie will lead the energy sourcing and customer supply group; Christopher Baker has become head of networks, with Joe Souto leading the governance group. Leadership of the nuclear team is still to be decided.

MacDonald was named as general counsel of the merged entity in June, having previously served as British Energy's head of legal. She replaced British Energy general counsel Robert Armour, who stood down after 20 years with the company.

MacDonald commented: "Our new legal team is a cross-section of talented individuals with many years of experience between them covering all aspects of the business. I am looking forward to the challenges before us."

The British Energy takeover, which was announced last year, saw Herbert Smith taking the lead corporate role for EDF and Clifford Chance acting for British Energy.
