Sullivan & Cromwell has announced its annual round of promotions, with five made up to the partnership, including one in London.

Of the five associates promoted, four are women. Sullivan chairman Rodgin Cohen attributed the growth in the firm's female partner ranks to policies such as flexi-time and maternity leave aimed at promoting and retaining greater numbers of women.

"Hopefully as we have more and more women joining us it will be the new normal," Cohen said. "We certainly for a long time have been trying to promote more women and more minorities."

Sullivan has a total of 172 partners, of which 30 are now women, equating to 17% of the partnership.

The total number of promotions was the same as last year's round, when five lawyers were also made up to partner.

The new partners are:

  • Whitney Chatterjee, corporate, New York
  • Marion Leydier, corporate, New York
  • Sarah Payne, corporate, Palo Alto
  • Zena Yoslov, trusts and estates, New York
  • Eric Wang, tax, London
