The Bar Council has elected new management with Nicholas Green QC of Brick Court Chambers appointed to the role of chairman.

Former vice-chair Green has been voted into the top role, replacing Desmond Browne of 5 Raymond Buildings.

Green took silk in 1998 and was appointed as a Crown Court Recorder in 2004.

He will be succeeded by Peter Lodder QC of 2 Bedford Row in the post of vice-chairman.

Lodder, a criminal specialist, is expected to hold the role for one year before making the progression to chairman in 2011.

Meanwhile, Andrew Mitchell QC has been elected to serve a third term as the Bar Council's Treasurer, after being appointed for the first time in 2008.

The appointments follow the news that former Bar Council chairman Geoffrey Vos QC has been appointed as a High Court judge.

The 3 Stone Buildings member will take up the position as Justice of the High Court in the Chancery division today (27 October).

Vos was chairman of the Bar Council during 2007-08 and was succeeded by Timothy Dutton QC. His appointment follows the retirement of Mr Justice Blackburn.
