Herbert Smith's German ally Gleiss Lutz has announced a new round of promotions, with six new partners set to be made up at the beginning of next year (1 January).

The firm's corporate and M&A department will see the majority of the promotions, with three new partners appointed. The other three new partners come in the banking and finance, antitrust and tax departments respectively.

Gleiss's Frankfurt and Stuttgart offices will each gain two new partners, with the firm's new Duesseldorf office also gaining two new partners. Two lawyers currently based in Stuttgart will relocate to Duesseldorf on their promotion – taking the partner count in the office to nine.

The firm's Berlin, Munich and Brussels offices have not gained any new partners.

Gleiss managing partner Rainer Loges said: "These appointments will help to grow and further strengthen important practice areas of the firm."

The total of six new partners is an increase on last year's promotions round, when four lawyers were made up. Following the appointments, Gleiss will have 79 partners firmwide.

The Brussels office is Gleiss's only office outside Germany after it spun off its Prague and Warsaw offices to Austrian independent Schoenherr at the beginning of this year.
