Greenberg Traurig Maher boosts partner count to 15 for New Year with partner hire from SJ Berwin

Greenberg Traurig Maher (GTM) has bolstered its City headcount to 15 partners with the hire of a corporate and securities partner from SJ Berwin.

Laura O'Neill will join the US firm in the New Year after four years as a partner with SJ Berwin, which she joined from Clifford Chance in 2005.

Her practice encompasses M&A, joint ventures and takeover advice, with a focus on public and private companies and financial institutions.

O'Neill previously worked as a derivatives trader with Japanese bank Nomura, qualifying as a solicitor more than 10 years ago.

She is the 15th lateral hire for GTM since it first launched in London in June and will take the London corporate and securities capability to 12 lawyers, of which five are partners.

London chairman Paul Maher (pictured) said: "Laura is very well regarded and I have no doubt will fit in well. We've been quite busy in the corporate and capital markets teams and although we are a relatively small team at present, we intend to scale this quickly. Laura's hire is therefore another important stepping stone."

Other partners to join the corporate group include former Dundas & Wilson partner Ewan Robertson and one of Maher's fellow founding partners from Mayer Brown, Fiona Adams.

Most recently GTM hired restructuring specialist Lyndon Norley from Kirkland & Ellis to launch the firm's City insolvency practice. Norley was a partner at Kirkland for seven years.
