Hammonds has secured a role acting as sole adviser to luxury retailer Cath Kidston for intellectual property (IP), branding and trademark work.

The appointment officially started this month following a competitive tender process. It will see Hammonds' pan-European brands group advising the homeware, fashion and accessory retailer on all IP matters, branding advisory, commercial contract and trademark strategy work.

The national law firm will advise Cath Kidston, which has seen profits increase from £127,000 in 2004 to £4.6m in 2009, as it plans further expansion through the UK and internationally.

Hammonds corporate partner Nick Allen will serve as the lead client relationship partner with commercial and IP partners Robert Wegenek and Carl Rohsler, as well as director of trademarks Chris McLeod.

Allen said: "Cath Kidston is planning major international expansion and the time was right for it to overhaul its IP and branding strategy. The company is going like a train and is the sort of company anyone would want to work for."

He added: "We have a well recognised and strong brand advisory practice and we are delighted that the company has chosen Hammonds to help it to develop and implement this new strategy."

The brands group currently advises a number of top clients including easyJet, Lindt, The Daily Telegraph and Chelsea Football Club.
