Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy has parted company with German corporate partner Wolfgang Grobecker, just a week after announcing his arrival in the US firm's Munich office.

News of Grobecker's exit comes after his previous firm, Hengeler Mueller, confirmed that Grobecker was asked to leave the leading German firm late last year because of alleged misconduct.

Both firms declined to provide any further comment on the specific details of the misconduct, but Milbank Munich partner Peter Nussbaum said: "Milbank and Wolfgang Grobecker have agreed that he would resign from the partnership, effective yesterday (10 January)."

Grobecker joined Milbank's 36-lawyer German practice at the beginning of the month (1 January), after leaving Hengeler at the end of last year, at which point the German firm took the unusual step of stating misconduct as a reason for his departure. Grobecker had been a partner with Hengeler since 2005, having been admitted to practise at the German Bar in 1999.

It is understood that Grobecker had been in talks with a number of law firms before accepting the offer to join Milbank.

Milbank opened in Munich in 2004, having initially entered the German market in 2001 with a Frankfurt launch.
