Pinsent Masons has landed a role advising on an infrastructure contract for the redevelopment of King's Cross.

The national firm is advising utility infrastructure group Inexus Group and subsidiary Metropolitan Infrastructure (MI) on a deal that has seen MI win the contract to design, construct and operate all of the utility services for the project.

It means MI will run infrastructure including electricity, water, wastewater, gas, fibre optics and heating networks.

Pinsents' commercial partner Simon Hobday has taken the lead role for Inexus, assisted by property partner Kevin Boa and projects partners Allison Sandle and Melanie Grimmitt.

Hobday said: "This is one of the few multi-utility set-ups for the private sector. The site is sustainable and has low carbon emissions. Finalising the deal has been a real team effort, bringing together the talents of our lawyers."

The King's Cross site comprises 67 acres of brownfield land and will see eight million sq ft of mixed-use property built by 2012, including new homes, office space and student residences.

The University of the Arts London has agreed to occupy the student space, expected to be developed by 2011.

Property developer Argent is overseeing the development of the land, including the upgrade of the Great Northern Hotel. Lovells is advising Argent on the deal, with the firm advising on a £150m funding arranging paving the way for the development in March 2009.

Other firms with roles on the redevelopment project include Herbert Smith for London and Continental Railways.
