Ropes & Gray is set to bring in Weil Gotshal & Manges restructuring partner Tony Horspool.

Horspool is expected to join the Boston firm on 1 March, less than two years after joining Weil from Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft in April 2008.

Horspool's hire comes less than six months after Ropes & Gray announced its London launch in October with the hire of high- profile City finance duo Maurice Allen and Mike Goetz, who joined from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

The pair subsequently recruited high yield partner Jonathan Bloom, a former White & Case colleague.

Allen told Legal Week: "Restructuring and insolvency has been one of our core areas for the office. We've got people who handle restructuring but we really needed someone with the technical insolvency skills and Tony fits the bill."

Ropes & Gray moved to its permanent office space at 5 New Street Square at the start of January, with the firm initially planning to house some 40 lawyers. It has already picked up a significant mandate acting for cable group Liberty Global on deal finance for its €3.5bn (£3bn) takeover of Germany's Unitymedia, fielding a team led by Goetz and Bloom.

Weil has a leading restructuring and insolvency team in the US but has struggled to build out its City practice at the senior end since losing London restructuring head Chris Mallon to New York rival Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom in late 2007.
