F&C Asset Management has settled its long-running £19m discrimination dispute with former legal head Gillian Switalski.

The undisclosed settlement comes after Switalski's claims of sexual discrimination, harassment and victimisation were upheld, having been heard by the Central London Employment Tribunal and twice by the Employment Appeal Tribunal over the past two years.

The case was set to progress to the Court of Appeal, where it was due to be heard last December.

However, in a statement, F&C said: "This matter has been resolved and all claims have been withdrawn."

Switalski (pictured) claimed she was left a mental and physical wreck after allegedly being forced out of her £140,000 a year job as head of legal at F&C. Her initial claim was understood to be in excess of £13m, for psychiatric damage, loss of earnings, pension rights and career prospects.

Harbottle & Lewis employment head Howard Hymanson, who joined the firm last year, took a lead role advising Switalski having originally taken on the case while he was a partner at Blake Lapthorn. Suzanne McKie of Devereux Chambers was retained as counsel.

Meanwhile, F&C turned to McDermott Will & Emery for advice with Monica Carrs-Frisk QC of Blackstone Chambers instructed as counsel.

Both F&C and the lawyers involved refused to comment.
