Greenberg Traurig Maher (GTM) has significantly boosted its City restructuring practice with a double partner hire from Kirkland & Ellis.

Jason Salman and Paul Atherton are set to join the US firm's London base in the coming weeks along with one associate. Their arrivals will take partner count in the office to 19, less than 12 months after the firm's City launch.

The move is part of GTM's business plan to build a significance restructuring presence in London. Lyndon Norley, the former head of Kirkland's restructuring practice, heads up the team after joining in the New Year.

GTM London chairman Paul Maher (pictured) commented: "These hires are very good news for us – we want to have a top quality restructuring outfit here in London and these guys go some way to achieving that."

Norley recruited Salman and Atherton as partners at Kirkland in 2008 from Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft and Sidley Austin respectively.

The moves continue GTM's bold push into the City, having bought in a number of leading names including Norley, DLA Piper energy partner Neil Upton and Eversheds real estate partner Tim Webb.

The departures leave Kirkland with three restructuring partners in London. Kon Asimacopoulos and Partha Kar head up the European practice alongside Leo Plank in Munich.
