Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) has made up eight associates to partner in this this year's round, including the firm's first Moscow partner promotion.
The UK top 20 firm has also promoted nine lawyers to the rank of associate director that was introduced four years ago as an alternative to partnership. Of these promotions, five are associates based in Moscow.
The additional seven partners and three associate directors are all based in the firm's London headquarters.
The partner promotions cover a spread of practice groups, with litigation and corporate gaining three promotions each, while real estate receives two new partners.
The total number of promotions is a slight increase on 2009, when seven new partners were promoted – all of which were in London – and 2008, when only five new partners were made up.
BLP managing partner Neville Eisenberg said: "Notwithstanding the challenging environment, we remain committed to providing our lawyers with the opportunities to fulfill their potential. It is very pleasing to see a number of these promotions in Moscow, which has had a very good first year of operations."
BLP launched its Moscow arm, Goltsblat BLP, in January last year with the hire of high-profile Russian corporate partner Andrey Goltsblat, who joined along with a 70-lawyer team from Pepeliaev Goltsblat & Partners.
All of the new BLP partners join the fixed-share partner rank with a discretionary route to senior equity partnership.
