Commercial property specialist firm Maples Teesdale has bolstered its corporate capabilities with the hire of a partner from Taylor Wessing.

Corporate partner Paul Burke joined the firm this week and will work alongside company commercial partner Denis Marshall, with a remit to build the corporate side of the firm's business.

Burke becomes the 13th partner in Maples' City headquarters, which is headed up by managing partner Mark Bryan and includes seven former Norton Rose lawyers and a further 24 fee earners working principally in the commercial property sector.

Property partner Roger Thornton told Legal Week: "We have been looking to expand this side of the business for a while and are delighted Paul is joining. He will lead the growth of the corporate team. There is a real opportunity to take advantage of the untapped potential of winning corporate work from our property clients."

The firm counts Legal & General, Royal & Sun Alliance, Lloyds TSB and Nestle among its core clients.

Last year Maples advised the US Government on the sale of the Grade II listed US Embassy building on Grosvenor Square to the Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company.
