Norton Rose has announced its first round of counsel promotions since the firm's merger with Australia's Deacons, with 23 making the grade including five in London.
In total, eighteen have been promoted to of counsel, while five lawyers have joined the firm's special counsel ranks in Sydney and Melbourne.
The of counsel promotions are spread across the firm's international offices with three in Paris, two each in Italy, Germany and Bahrain and one each in Hong Kong, Singapore, Warsaw and Amsterdam.
Practice-wise, seven of the promotions are in dispute resolution, six in banking, six in corporate – including two in insurance – two in tax, one in real estate, and one in competition.
The new promotions took effect earlier this month (1 May) when Norton Rose also made up eleven new partners firmwide.
Norton Rose group chief executive Peter Martyr (pictured) commented: "This is our fifth set of promotions to of counsel, but the first to include Australia and special counsel.
"The promotions highlight both the key strengths of our business and the strategic importance of international growth for Norton Rose".
Norton Rose merged with Australia's Deacons on 1 January this year, handing Norton Rose Group an Australian arm, with the union set up in a Swiss verein structure.
