Baker & McKenzie has appointed Gary Senior for a third term as the international firm's London managing partner.

The firm's steering group took soundings form the City partnership, after which Senior was appointed unopposed, with his new three-year term starting this September.

He was originally appointed as head of the City office in 2003, replacing the late Russell Lewin, and was subsequently reappointed in 2007.

Senior has overseen significant growth in London, with the office breaking the £100m revenue barrier during his tenure.

Senior commented: "I am delighted to be asked to serve again for another term. I am excited about the opportunities that are available to us as a firm and an office in London. The UK and international legal markets continue to go through a period of unprecedented change, which makes it an exciting time to be undertaking this role."

Senior has steered the office through a tricky period during the recession which saw London profits drop by 33% during the last financial year to £380,000, while revenue held steady, dipping by just 3.4% to £115.7m.

Like many other firms, Bakers has also reduced its headcount in the City during the downturn, laying off 70 staff including 21 fee earners, 21 business support staff and 28 secretaries, a move which cost the firm more than £3m.

However, Bakers has also made a number of key hires in recent months, including highly rated financial services regulatory partner Ian Mason from Barlow Lyde & Gilbert and projects partner Calvin Walker from Allen & Overy.
