Bird & Bird has recruited a partner from Greenberg Traurig to boost its corporate and finance practice in The Hague.

Gerard Moussault will bring with him Greenberg associate Steven Geers. They are joined by Sarah Gerritse, previously a legal counsel in the Royal Bank of Scotland's London equity derivatives team.

Moussault has been at Greenberg since 2004 and specialises in finance transactions as well as corporate and finance restructurings and reorganisations in the Dutch market.

Marjolein Geus, joint head of Bird & Bird's office in The Hague, said: "For a couple of years we have had a growth strategy for our international corporate and tax practice groups. We had a working relationship with Gerard in various transactions and saw him as a good fit with our international outlook. He has been a good friend of the firm, having formerly worked together with Rene Rieter, our civil law notary in The Hague, at Greenberg Traurig."

The UK top 15 law firm's office in The Hague received the highest number of new partners in its recent promotions round, with three lawyers made up out of a firmwide total of 10.

Moussault said: "I have known Bird & Bird for a long time and was attracted by its international strategy and industry focus. The practice complements my own strengths and after a time of consolidation there will be more expansion."

The news follows Bird & Bird's loss of a four-strong Dutch tax team – partner Jasper Helder and three associates – to Baker & McKenzie in April this year.
