White & Case has made a double partner hire from Gide Loyrette Nouel's London office as the firm continues to rebuild its banking and capital markets practice in the City.

Gide partners Michael Doran and Christopher Czarnocki are set to join the US firm's banking and capital markets practice.

Doran joined Gide in 2003 when the French leader opened its London office with a number of partners from Sidley Austin. He has a debt capital markets practice with a mix of emerging and developed markets work.

Czarnocki joined Gide in 2005 and made partner two years later. He advises on structured trade, commodity and bank finance. Prior to joining Gide he was an associate at both Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft and Clifford Chance. White & Case has been looking to shore up its banking and capital markets capability in the City since a four-partner walkout to Latham & Watkins earlier this year.

The City practice hired restructuring lawyer Chris Pilkington as a partner from Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom in March, and recently promoted to the partnership banking specialists Jonathan Weinberg in Prague, Jeremy Duffy in London and Irina Nesvetova in Moscow.

White & Case global banking head Eric Berg said: "[The hires continue] the rebuilding of our international finance capabilities and Doran's track record on emerging markets transactions, particularly in Poland, Russia, Africa and Turkey, provides additional partner expertise in these growth areas."

The hires bring partner numbers in the practice to 21 in the City and 52 in Europe.
