Clarke Willmott has announced a change in leadership with chairman Stephen Rosser to succeed long-time leader David Sedgwick in the role of chief executive.

It is the first transition in leadership for over a decade at Clarke Willmott as Sedgwick has managed the national law firm for 11 years, having first been elected in 1999.

Rosser (pictured) was named chairman of the firm in December last year and will now assume both roles, which include advising the firm on its operational management and strategy.

His initiatives so far have included forming a board which will oversee the firm's strategic direction.

Rosser said that his main challenge at Clarke Willmott would be positioning the practice for a rapidly changing market. He commented: "The challenging marketplace and imminent changes, such as the Legal Service Act, are set to challenge and reshape our industry and as a firm we need to be prepared to deal with these changes."

He added: "I am very grateful to David for all his hard work over the years and I am grateful for his continued support as I take over this exciting but demanding role."

Sedgwick will remain as a senior partner of the firm and will continue to work with the board in an advisory capacity while helping with the transition of roles.
