Taylor Wessing is set to add a new partner to its private equity practice with a Clifford Chance (CC) hire.

Emma Danks will join the Anglo-German firm's London office on 1 September, becoming the 10th partner in the City private equity team.

Danks is currently a senior associate at CC after joining the firm as a trainee in 1999. She qualified in 2001, after also spending time in the magic circle law firm's Hong Kong office.

During her time at CC, Danks has advised clients including Permira, Candover and MidOcean Partners.

She will join Taylor Wessing's 60-lawyer private equity group, which has a total of 38 partners firmwide.

Private equity group head Mark Davis said that Danks' hire had come on the back of a recent boost in the number of clients Taylor Wessing's private equity practice advises, with the profitability of the group increasing despite a drop-off in activity in the wider market during the financial downturn.

The firm has a particular focus on the private equity upper mid-market and counts a number of funds among its clients, including Electra Private Equity, Bridgepoint and Carlyle Group, with JO Hambro Investment Management a recent addition to the firm's roster.

Commenting on the hire, Davis said: "Emma is a terrific person and a very impressive private equity lawyer. It is also especially satisfying to hire somebody with great connections in the market and who comes highly recommended by clients."

Notable recent deals for Taylor Wessing include advising on Mercedes-Benz's takeover of the Brawn GP Formula One team in November last year; a deal that saw the firm advise Brawn with a team led by City private equity partner Russell van Praagh.
